Radon gas is now universally recognized as a home health hazard. According to the
Surgeon General, inhalation of radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer
in America, and the leading cause of lung cancer in non-smokers. Radon is a colorless,
tasteless, odorless gas that occurs naturally in all types of soil. Some levels
of radon gas penetrate most homes, at times to hazardous levels, regardless of foundation
type or
. No home can be considered to be immune to radon.
The Environmental Protection Agency states that radon levels cannot be predicted
and that the only sure way to know if a radon hazard exists in your home is to have
testing performed. Radon levels can vary significantly from building to building.
Do not assume that your home is radon safe merely because a neighbor’s home has
tested safe.
Testing by a qualified, certified Radon Measurement Technologist, applying quality
control test procedures, working with state of the art measuring devices, with results
analyzed by a certified radon laboratory, is the best way to achieve accurate testing
results.
Even if testing reveals a high level of radon in your home, it can be remedied.
Radon mitigation companies specialize in providing the necessary remedies to reduce
or eliminate your radon risk.
As your radon measurement technologist, I use the Radalink monitoring system which
provides “continuous” monitoring over the test period, the most accurate type of
monitoring available. At the completion of the measurement period, the results are
uploaded to the Radalink laboratory, with a certified radon report, personalized
to your home, emailed to you the same day. I will be available to help you understand
the results, or you may call Radalink’s toll-free number to speak with their technicians
who will fully explain the results and answer your questions.
Your defense against radon begins with the knowledge that only testing can provide.
